Chore Coat
Our chore coat is where we started; the first one was cut and sewn by Steven more than a decade ago in San Francisco. It’s our interpretation of this timeless workwear piece, but one with carefully considered details.

Colors, Fabrics & Trim
Indigo
Our signature indigo chore coat uses a 15oz indigo selvedge denim from Kuroki Mills, in Ibara, Okayama prefecture, in western Japan, that was used in the original Dillon Montara releases, a decade ago. The selvedge is marked by an orange ticker.
In keeping with much of the traditional denim we love, we're using orange top-stitch thread, and antique copper donut-hole jeans buttons with bright copper center rivets.
Black
The black chore coat is made from a 14.25 oz black warp, black weft denim in a 3x1 broken twill woven in Trion, Georgia.
Thread is tone-on-tone black, and we've chosen black, zinc oxide donut-hole buttons and copper center nails.
Bone
Our bone coat uses an off-white, 12oz brushed, piece-dyed bull denim.
The fabric has a soft, luxurious hand and drape and is sewn with off-white thread. We're completing the garment with antique nickel donut-hole jeans buttons with copper centers.
Details
This coat is the first one we reach for when we're heading out the door on errands, and also the one we dress up on special occasions. The work jacket that will never wear out also transitions from your day job to your fun.
We've added a subtle curve at the front hem, a tailored, 4-piece collar construction so it lies effortlessly on the neck, and angled pockets so your hands slip right in — once you slip into this jacket you may never want to take it off.
We decided to dispense with using our chainstitch felling machine, and developed an assembly sequence that lets us use a single-needle lockstitch machine for all the felled seams. The sleeves are double-sewn into the body, then bound in bias tape. Keyhole buttonholes are sewn on a Reece 101 buttonhole machine. We use YKK donut-hole jeans buttons with 2-prong tacks on the body and cuffs for added strength.
The Chore Coat is unlined.

Care
These are all-cotton, denim chore coats. We recommend hand-washing with a gentle detergent, and hanging to dry. When you go longer between washes, your patience will be repaid as the denim ages and fades, especially our Kuroki Indigo denim. Our Black coat will develop gray highlights with time. Our Bone bull denim will fade the least, but will become softer and more supple with wear.
The coats can also be machine-washed with a gentle cycle. The garment should be turned inside-out and buttoned. Use a front-loading machine to avoid marks that a top-loading agitator can create. Drying in a warm dryer for a short period of time works, but it's best if you take the coat out of the dryer and hang it to finish drying completely.
These garments can also be dry-cleaned.
